What are the 2 Types of Car Batteries?

When replacing the battery in your Toyota FJ Cruiser, you will need to decide if you want a flooded or AGM battery. Flooded batteries offer the lowest upfront cost. Because flooded batteries aren't completely sealed, you may have to perform additional maintenance. Some flooded batteries require you to top off the electrolyte inside with distilled water when the liquid levels get too low.

AGM batteries are completely sealed and maintenance-free. They also provide more power than a flooded battery. This translates into stronger starting power even in extreme hot and cold weather. AGM batteries are also designed to last longer and charge faster. The one downside is that AGM batteries cost more upfront. Because of their longer lives, however, many people save money in the long run with an AGM battery.

Can You Replace an AGM Battery with a Flooded One?

Before purchasing a new battery, be sure to check what type of battery your FJ Cruiser originally came with. If it was an AGM, you need to replace it with another AGM option. Downgrading to a flooded battery, in this case, will have a negative impact on your vehicle's performance.

If your vehicle originally came with a flooded battery, you can replace it with another flooded battery, or upgrade to an AGM battery if you choose.

Toyota FJ Cruiser FAQs

You can find the correct group battery size for your FJ Cruiser by consulting your owner's manual, or by looking it up online. You can find additional info in our blog, "How Do I Know Which Car Battery Fits My Car?  "

Check whether your current battery is an AGM. If it is, you need to replace it with another AGM battery. If you have a flooded battery in your FJ Cruiser, you can choose whether you want a flooded or AGM option.

The cost of a replacement battery will depend on the type of battery that you choose. Flooded batteries are more affordable, but have shorter lifespans. An AGM is more costly upfront, but won't have to be replaced as quickly, which often saves you money in the long run.
