What Information Do You Need to Replace Your MINI Countryman Battery?
Before you begin shopping for a replacement battery, there are a couple of pieces of information you'll want to gather.
- Begin by looking up your SUV's BCI group battery size in your owner's manual or by checking online.
- Next, look up the recommended CCA rating for your Countryman - CCAs tell you how well a battery will perform in subzero temperatures.
- You can buy a battery with a higher CCA rating than the manufacturer recommends, but do not buy one with a lower than recommended rating.
How to Determine What Type of Battery You Need
There are two different types of auto batteries: flooded and AGM. Here are some key differences between the two:
Flooded Batteries
- Flooded batteries are more affordable than AGM batteries upfront.
- Flooded batteries are not fully sealed and may require you to top off the electrolyte inside with distilled or deionized water.
AGM Batteries
- AGM batteries cost more upfront, but are designed to last 2-3X longer than a flooded battery, which can save you money in the long run.
- AGM batteries are fully sealed and do not require you top off the electrolyte.
- AGM batteries provide more power than flooded batteries, allowing you to start your engine more easily in extremely hot and cold climates.
- Some vehicles require an AGM battery. If your MINI Countryman came from the factory with an AGM battery, you must replace it with another AGM option.
