Important Auto Battery Information

Before you head out battery shopping, it's a good idea to gather some basic information. First off, you'll want to look up the correct size battery for your GX 460. You can find this in your owner's manual, or get additional details by reading our blog "How Do I Know Which Car Battery Fits My Car?  "

Next, look up the CCA rating for your SUV. CCAs (cold cranking amps) indicate how well a battery will perform once the temperature hits 0℉. This information should also be included in your owner's manual. When it comes to buying a new battery, be sure that the one you choose meets the CCA rating for your vehicle, otherwise, you may have a hard time starting your engine in cold weather. Learn more about CCA in our blog "How Many Cold Cranking Amps Do I Need for Cold Weather  ."

AGM vs Flooded Batteries: What You Need to Know

  • There are 2 types of auto batteries: flooded & AGM.
  • Some vehicles require an AGM battery in order to run start/stop systems and other onboard technology. If your SUV came with an AGM, you must replace it with another AGM battery.
  • If your SUV came with a flooded battery installed, you can choose whether you want to replace it with another flooded battery or upgrade to an AGM.

How Are Flooded and AGM Auto Batteries Different?

  • Flooded batteries cost less than AGM batteries.
  • Since flooded batteries are not fully sealed, many require you to top off the electrolyte inside with distilled or deionized water.
  • AGM batteries cost more, but are designed to last 2-3X longer than a flooded battery, which can save you money in the long run.
  • Since AGM batteries are fully sealed, they do not require you to top off the electrolyte.
  • An AGM battery is more powerful than a flooded battery, which makes it easier to start your engine in hot and cold weather.
