What size battery in a Ford F-250?

When selecting a new battery, the first thing to do is find the correct BCI group battery size for your Ford F-250 truck. Your owner's manual will provide you with this information. If you no longer have your owner's manual, you can look this up online. Many Ford F-250 pickups take Group 65 batteries.

How many cold cranking amps do I need for F-250?

Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)   tell you how well your battery will perform in cold weather. Auto manufactures provide a recommended minimum CCA rating for each vehicle they produce. There are a few different ways to find the correct CCA rating for your Ford F-250:

  • Check the label of your current battery
  • Check the owner's manual for battery specifications
  • Check online resources for battery minimum ratings.

If you live in an area that is prone to particularly cold winters, it's perfectly okay to buy a battery with a higher CCA rating. This will help your battery start more reliably. You should not, however, buy a battery with a lower CCA rating than the manufacturer recommends.

What type of battery should I get for a Ford F-250?

Your Ford F-250 requires a 12-volt auto battery, the same as other cars and trucks. There are several different battery chemistries available at Batteries Plus. Flooded batteries are the most basic type of vehicle battery. They offer reliable starting power at the lowest upfront cost. Depending on the battery you buy, you may also have to occasionally top off a flooded battery with distilled water to help replenish water lost to evaporation.

An AGM battery costs a bit more than a flooded battery, but provides a number of performance benefits, including:

  • Longer lifespan - designed to last 2-3X longer than a flooded battery
  • Higher voltage output - provides more energy than a flooded battery for more reliable vehicle starting
  • Faster charging - recharges faster than a flooded battery
  • Maintenance free - completely sealed & spill-proof
  • Lower self-discharge rate - holds its charge longer in storage than a flooded battery
  • Vibration & weather resistant - holds up better against vibrations and extreme hot & cold
  • If your Ford F-250 already has an AGM, do not downgrade to a flooded battery; you must replace it with another AGM option.

What is the best battery for a Ford F-250?

X2Power is the best battery for your Ford F-250. X2Power batteries feature 99.9% pure lead electrochemistry, which greatly increases temperature and corrosion resistance. It also offers the following performance features:

  • Designed to last up to 3X longer than a flooded battery
  • Higher power capacity makes it ideal for trucks with lots of onboard technology
  • Recharges faster than a flooded auto battery
  • High CCA rating for top performance in any climate
  • 28X more resistant to vibrations
  • 100% spill-proof & maintenance free

Ford F-250 Super Duty FAQs

The Ford F-250 diesel does have two batteries. This is because diesel engines need a larger amount of power to turn over the engine. Batteries in a diesel truck should usually be replaced at the same time. When one battery fails, it puts additional stress on the second battery, which typically lowers its lifespan.

The battery in your Ford F-250 should last around 3-5 years. You can help to get the most out of your battery by driving your Ford F-250 for at least 30 minutes once a week at highway speeds. If your truck will be sitting idle for more than 2 weeks, it's a good idea to attach it to a battery maintainer to help keep it from discharging too low.

You should also keep your Ford F-250 battery free from corrosion. To learn more, read our blog post entitled "What is Car Battery Corrosion and How Do You Prevent It?  "

Replace your battery when you notice a drop in performance. If you're worried your battery may be dying you can have it tested for free at your nearest Batteries Plus. Some common symptoms of a dying battery include:

  • Difficulty starting your engine
  • Having to repeatedly jump start your battery
  • Headlights appear dimmer than normal
  • Onboard electronics don't function properly
