Find the Right Battery Size and CCA Rating
Not sure what type of battery you need? Auto batteries are all categorized by BCI Group size. You can find the right size battery in your Ford E-150 owner's manual.
Vehicles also come with specific power requirements, especially in cold weather. CCAs (short for Cold Cranking Amps) tell you how well a battery will perform in 0℉ weather. Your Ford E-150 has a recommended minimum CCA rating in order to start the engine. You can buy a battery with a higher than recommended CCA rating, but do not buy a battery with a lower than recommended number of CCAs. If you do, you will likely have a hard time turning over your engine reliably.

Determine Whether You Need a Flooded or AGM Battery
There are two different types of auto batteries available: flooded and AGM (short for Absorbed Glass Mat). Some vehicles require an AGM battery. If you have one of those, you must replace it with another AGM battery. If you have a flooded battery in your vehicle, you can choose whether to replace it with a flooded battery or upgrade to an AGM option.
Here are the primary differences between flooded and AGM:
- A flooded battery is the most basic auto battery. It is also the most affordable type of battery, but since it is unsealed, it may require you to periodically add distilled water to the electrolyte inside it.
- An AGM battery is more advanced and costs more upfront. Since AGM batteries are designed to last 2-3X longer than a flooded option, they can end up saving you money in the long run.
- AGM batteries are completely sealed and require no additional maintenance.
- AGM batteries are also more powerful than flooded batteries, making them a more reliable battery for starting your engine in extreme conditions.
