Before you go any further: The Dodge Dakota was known as the Ram Dakota for the final two years of its production, 2009-2011. This is important information to know when you're searching for parts and accessories for your truck.

When should you replace the battery in your Dodge Dakota? According to our experts, the battery in your Dodge Dakota will typically last 3-5 years. But don't worry, your battery will likely give you some signs when it's beginning to fail  . For instance, you'll notice a decline in its performance. A failing battery will have a much harder time starting your engine. (And you might have needed a jump recently.) You may also notice that the electronics in your Dakota don't work as efficiently or see corrosion   building up on your battery's terminals. If you notice any of these symptoms, bring your Dakota pickup to your neighborhood Batteries Plus and have it tested, free of charge  . It takes less than two minutes, in most cases!

At Batteries Plus, you'll find a wide variety of batteries for your Dodge Dakota or Dodge Ram Dakota. We have top-quality replacement batteries from brands like Duracell Ultra and our exclusive battery brand, X2Power  . Best of all, if you purchase a new battery from us, our expert technicians will be happy to install it for you (on most makes & models at most locations). To protect your new battery from future corrosion, upgrade to Premier Installation Service. There's a fee, but the protection for your investment is worth the peace of mind.

Your Dodge Dakota or Dodge Ram Dakota runs on a 12 volt auto battery. When you're looking for a new battery for your Dakota, the first thing you need to do is determine what size battery you need. Vehicle manufacturers list a specific BCI (Battery Council International) group number for every model they produce. You can find the correct model number for your pickup in your owner's manual or using one of the many tools available online.

In addition to dependable car & truck batteries, Batteries Plus also offers a variety of automotive essentials in our Auto Center. Shop our selection of headlight bulbs, windshield wiper blades, spare auto fuses and more. We also offer a number of truck battery chargers to help maintain your battery and jump starters to help get your motor started if your battery fails. If you need a key fob replacement, most of our locations cut keys and program new fobs and keyless entry remotes.

Dodge Dakota FAQs

Dodge Dakota pickup trucks require a 12 volt auto starting battery. You can choose whether you want a flooded, AGM or TPPL AGM battery in your Dakota. You can read more about these different battery types in the section above, or in your truck's owner's manual.

Important note: If your Dodge Dakota originally came with an AGM battery, do not replace it with a flooded battery. Doing so will have a negative effect on your truck's performance.

The battery in your Dodge Dakota will likely last 3-5 years. If you want to get the longest life possible out of your battery, be sure to keep your battery charged up at all times by driving it regularly or using a battery charger to keep it maintained when it's sitting idle. You'll also want to watch for corrosion, and maintain your battery per the manufacturer's specifications. Other factors, like the climate where you live, will impact your battery. We know that cold weather is tough on batteries, but extreme heat will weaken batteries as well.

Recycle old car & truck batteries at Batteries Plus! Our teams are committed to recycling. When you have your Dodge Dakota battery replaced, we'll take your old battery, we'll pass it along to our recycling partners who will ensure that any useable parts will be repurposed and that they won't wind up in a landfill or waterway.
