AirTags are incredibly useful. Not only do they give you added peace of mind when you're traveling with luggage, but they also help you find your keys or your wallet when you are rushing out of the house. But did you know that they have replaceable batteries that can be replaced at home easily?
How Long Do AirTag Batteries Last?
AirTags are designed to last over a year on a single battery and your iPhone will even let you know when it's time to replace the battery so you are never stuck with a dead AirTag.
What Kind of Battery Does the AirTag Use?
Your AirTag uses the ever-popular lithium 2032 coin cell battery which is used in so many devices. We carry several different pack sizes so you can always have batteries on hand.
One important note: Some batteries manufactured before September 2022 with bitterant coatings to prevent children from swallowing batteries may not work with AirTags. If you have a stockpile of older Duracell CR2032 batteries that contain this coating they may not work as a replacement battery for your AirTag. Duracell has adjusted its process and any new CR2032s used will work without concern.
How Durable Are AirTags?
Do you have your AirTag hooked to your backpack? If you're caught walking in the rain, not a problem! AirTags are IP67 rated which means they can handle 1 meter of water for about 30 minutes. So if you have your AirTag strapped to something that may get splashed or caught in the rain, you have nothing to worry about.
How Do I Replace the AirTag Battery?
It's surprisingly easy to replace the battery in an AirTag.
- Flip the AirTag over so the chrome side is facing up.
- Firmly press down on the chrome side and rotate counterclockwise while holding the front, the white side, steady.
- Remove the back cover and set it aside.
- Remove the old battery.
- Insert the new battery with the positive side facing up.
- The AirTag will chime when the new battery is inserted.
- Grab the chrome cover and line up the tabs with the grooves in the AirTag body.
- Once aligned, press down and twist the back cover clockwise until it stops.
And you're done, that's how simple it is to get your AirTag working again with a new battery.
