We have the flexibility that we can service any of the (national account) locations nationwide, and I think the commitment from Batteries Plus is to grow these accounts whether it's franchise developed or nationally developed. The goal is to make everybody work together and have success.
You know how to run a business but in terms of running this kind of business, it was all totally new to us. I guess I’m still an expert in training, but we’re learning a lot. We’re learning everyday, and the process works. It’s very exciting. I love getting up in the morning and going to work, and I would say I’d do it again.
We asked ourselves - is it a company that maybe had been oversaturated already in the area? What we liked about Batteries Plus is that even though the company has been around for awhile, in regards to the franchise community, it wasn’t oversaturated in our opinion.
One of the aspects of Batteries Plus that I think has significantly helped us out is ProSource which is a web based cross reference tool for matching batteries to applications. ProSource allows us to source different products and determine if they are available in our system or our store. It has helped me train my employees, get them up to speed more quickly and made them more professional and proficient.
The ecommerce program has impacted our business in several different ways. It’s a primary driver of people into our store; they do their research at home on the Internet, but are uncomfortable buying on the Internet. They will then find our store through the store locator, and come in to make their purchase. We realize that revenue through the program.
There are three parts to this business: you have retail, commercial, and technical. All three parts are necessary, however as an owner you can pick and choose the ones you want to be more involved with. If I had to do only outside sales all day long I would not be very successful. I looked at a lot of the businesses that were for sale and I realized that they were for sale for a reason. What I noticed in many of franchises was that the franchisor was just selling franchises or the franchise provided no challenge. This concept has many challenges and continues to change and grow. We have been in business for over ten years and I still enjoy coming to work every morning.
