Batteries Plus®, the nation's first, largest and fastest growing battery and light bulb franchise had another record year in 2011. The company opened more than one store per week, totaling 54 stores by year's end, and had a record year of 71 franchise store signings. March 2011 alone saw signings for 32 stores.
The franchise recently celebrated the opening of its 500th store. The company began franchising in 1992 and opened its first franchise owned store in Fort Wayne, IN. Batteries Plus has grown from offering a limited selection of batteries to now offering a comprehensive selection of over 40,000 batteries, light bulbs, related products and technical support across 500 stores in 46 states and Puerto Rico.
Batteries Plus serves the expanding $30.7 billion U.S. battery industry and the growing U.S. light bulb industry estimated to be at $14 billion in sales. "The demand for replacement batteries for portable devices and energy saving light bulbs is very strong and have allowed us to fulfill a fundamental need for consumers and businesses," said John Twist, Vice President of Franchise and Business Development. When people visit our stores because they need batteries and light bulbs they realize that "so does everyone else" and that this is great business opportunity. Once making the connection, they bought into the Batteries Plus franchise, so they could be the light bulb and battery supplier in their local communities
In addition to the impressive offering of batteries and light bulbs, Batteries Plus locations have the equipment and expertise on-site to assemble, test, condition and design custom battery packs for rechargeable household and business products. This is another one of multiple revenue streams the Batteries Plus franchise opportunity offers to prospective franchisees.
Batteries Plus stores offer battery products for everything from tiny hearing aid batteries to large farm equipment batteries. In addition to its impressive battery offerings, Batteries Plus' light bulb products include everything from the norm, such as light bulbs for recessed lighting, track lighting, incandescent and CFL light bulbs, to the extra ordinary light bulbs for cars, healthcare equipment, aquariums, projectors, and much more. Batteries Plus lighting experts show customers the value of switching from incandescent light bulbs to CFLs or LEDs when lighting their home or business and will recommend color temperature options depending on the application.
Because of the company's unique offerings and wide array of replacement batteries and light bulbs, Batteries Plus has experienced three straight years of record growth. As a result, Batteries Plus has been designated as the 5th fastest growing franchise in the U.S. based on percentage unit growth from 2009-2010 by Franchise Times® Top 200, and also received high praise from Entrepreneur Magazine and AllBusiness.com, both of which ranked Batteries Plus as the nation's #1 Retail Battery Franchise. Batteries Plus has also made Inc 5000's list of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies for five straight years.
Coming off a 44% increase in store count over the past 3 years, and with same store sales growing an average of 12.4% over that same span, Batteries Plus remains one of the top franchise opportunities on the market in 2012.
