Go ahead and count 'em up.

"Most people don't realize how many batteries they use until they start counting," said Joe Kasper, a regional manager at Batteries Plus, which opened April 14 at 138 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

The average household contains 19 items that require batteries, according to the national chain.

Batteries Plus sells 1,000 types of batteries "for anything you can imagine," Kasper said. He has batteries for hearing aids, watches, MP3 players, remote controls, laptops and emergency power equipment.

Prices range from 33 cents for an AA battery to $5,000 for building backup systems.

If a battery isn't in stock, the store will order it.

"We really separate ourselves with our service," Kasper said. "We explain how people can extend the life of their batteries."

Store employees install batteries if asked.
