Batteries Plus opens on Green Bay east side
OCTOBER 10, 2008
BY NATHAN PHELPS

After years of requests for a store on the east side of the Fox River, Batteries Plus on Monday opened a new corporate store at 2042 E. Main St.

"For years, we would get feedback from customers at our (Ashwaubenon store) of: 'Boy, I really wish you would have a store over on the east side," said Justin Schaper, a district manager with Batteries Plus. "When we finally opened the store, our first several customers, in one way or another would say, 'Finally you're over here.'"

The Hartland-based Batteries Plus has both corporate and franchise stores. Both stores in the Green Bay area are corporate locations, which can act as test beds for new concepts, Schaper said.

The new store features a tech center to handle custom battery building - including the remanufacturing of batteries that can't be bought off the shelf.

"For example, people's cordless razors," he said. "There's a rechargeable battery that's welded together and soldered in a circuit board inside the shaver … our staff is trained to take those devices apart and rebuild the ... pack."

Batteries Plus, which was founded in 1988, has also joined an in-store rechargeable and alkaline battery recycling program in conjunction with The Big Green Box.

"Things they can't normally just throw in the trash, we have a place for them to drop it off," Schaper said.
